River of Words:

Art & Poetry for Our Watershed

Spring 2008 Session

Dates To Be Announced!

3 Rivers Wet Weather • RiverQuest • Arts Education Collaborative

We invite you to participate in River of Words, a national program that enables teachers to help their students understand environmental science and express their learning and feelings through art and poetry. This cross-curricular approach not only meets PA Academic Standards, but also ignites passion for science, art and writing among students.

In a unique collaboration among area educators and environmental groups, we are offering:

  • A two-day, professional development workshop designed by Carnegie Museum of Art and RiverQuest that combines art, writing and science in exploring our environment.
  • An opportunity to respond to an RFP for K-8 art, language arts and science teachers who collaborate to deliver this cross-curricular approach in their classrooms.

Teachers Will Gain

  • A rich understanding of how the artist, writer and scientist think and how to help students explore environmental science through art and poetry.
  • Hands-on experience through a one-day workshop on RiverQuest’s Discovery boat, well-known among area science teachers and students, and a one-day workshop in a specially designed art and literature program at the Carnegie Museum of Art.
  • Participants receive a total of 10 hours of Act 48 credit.
