Green Science Tour

Pittsburgh is a major center for green building! Over the past 10 years, 26 green buildings have been constructed, and the world's first green boat is on its way!

Explore some of the alternative technologies such as hydrogen fuel cells, solar energy, and biofuels that allow for cleaner operations and conservation of natural resources, and view some prime examples of green construction from the rivers.

It's Alive! Ecoadventure

Sail into adventure looking for signs of life in the watery world that runs through our city. Get up close and personal with our local waterfowl, and get puzzled by strange local fish.  Search for microscopic plankton in a river water sample, and identify creepy crawly macroinvertebrates from a sample of river mud.

Bridges of Pittsburgh

Cruise the three rivers learning what makes Pittsburgh the bridge capital of the world! Voyage into Pittsburgh's past when horse-drawn carriages clattered across wooden bridges and hear fascinating tales of fire and floods as you sail through our colorful bridge history. Try your hand at engineering, marvel at the ancient arch construction and build and test several types of bridges.

REGISTRATION:

To purchase tickets by phone, call 412-231-2712, Monday through Friday, between 10:00am and 4:00pm.  You may leave a message after hours as well, and we'll call you back.  PRE-REGISTRATION IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.

TICKETS:

Ticket prices vary for regular and seasonal offerings.  Please call 412-231-2712 if you need information that you cannot find on this website.

On tour days, available tickets may be purchased at the RiverQuest dock, prior to each departure.  Tickets sales for each trip end 10 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time.

LOCATION:

The RiverQuest dock is located next to Carnegie Science Center's submarine.  The dock is accessed via the pathway along the river, adjacent to the Science Center's main parking lot.   Look for the tall vertical RiverQuest sign.

PARKING:

While RiverQuest is not a part of Carnegie Science Center, our customers are able to park in Carnegie Science Center lots, based on availability.  THERE IS A CHARGE TO PARK in Science Center lots.  Parking for RiverQuest is at Carnegie Science Center lots. There is a charge of $5 per vehicle for non-Carnegie Science Center members. Member parking rates are $3 per vehicle. Special parking rates apply for special events such as Pitt Panther games, Steelers games and Pirates games; please call Carnegie Science Center for parking details - 412-237-3400.

REFUND POLICY

Due to the seasonal nature and limited capacity of these trips, tickets are not refundable unless the trip is cancelled by RiverQuest.  Trips proceed rain or shine; please dress for the weather.  Vessels and activities on board include enclosed areas as well as outdoor areas.  RiverQuest reserves the right to cancel, postpone, or reschedule a trip due to low enrollment, severe weather, or prohibitive river conditions.  If a trip is cancelled by RiverQuest, customers holding tickets to that trip will receive a full refund.
